Most of my customers come to me for their first visit because they are in pain. They’ve often been to physiotherapy or seen a chiropractor, and now they’re looking at massage as a form of pain relief. They may have been injured at work – whether it’s paid or unpaid! Or they’ve been injured on the weekend playing sport or enjoying some other hobby.
Consequently it’s no surprise that remedial massage is the most common massage I do here at Karinya Blue Natural Therapies.
How Do You Define Remedial Massage?
According to Medibank Private, we can define remedial massage as:
“… the systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body to assist in rehabilitation, pain and injury management”
Wikipedia has also done a great job to define remedial massage as:
“…a treatment modality that manipulates the soft tissues of the body including movement for a specific therapeutic effect, rather than a general therapeutic effect. It uses relevant techniques, lubricants and movements according to the client’s needs and response”
Why Is Remedial Massage So Popular?
These definitions make it clear why remedial massage is so popular. It’s not just about relaxation to make you feel good. If you’re already feeling good and want a brilliant way to relax, then you’re better off enjoying some aromatherapy.
Remedial massage is basically the massage you have when you’ve been injured in some way, and are seeking rehabilitation to repair the damage and manage your pain. It targets specific parts of the body to relieve pain in those areas.
Getting Effective Results
In order to target those afflicted areas and really get to the cause of your pain, at Karinya Blue we only do a half body massage in an hour. This way we can get the results you want as we’re focusing only on the areas required, rather than only half-treating the painful areas, and then treating other areas that are not causing any problems. With a full body massage we still focus on the part of the body that is the issue for a full hour, and then spend another 30 or 60 minutes on the other half of your body for optimum health.
Effective remedial treatment is about finding those parts of the body that are not only painful, but the precise area where the initial injury is located. This is our specific area of expertise at Karinya Blue Natural Therapies.
Understanding Your Body
The only way we can offer you relief through remedial massage is if we have a very clear understanding of your injury. The purpose of our initial consultation is just this. Once we know what exactly what the problem is, we can work with you to determine your needs, personalise your treatment, and offer you effective relief through remedial treatment.
Whereas physiotherapists focus mainly on strengthening muscles, and chiropractors focus more on mobility, remedial massage focuses on the combination of both strength and mobility to get your body to the point where you are no longer in pain. Our remedial treatment aims to improve both muscle function and mobility. At Karinya Blue Natural Therapies we use trigger point techniques and deep tissue massage to achieve results.
